About this colour
Yellow Ochre is one of the oldest pigments known to humanity - used by cave painters tens of thousands of years ago and still irreplaceable on the modern artist's palette. A warm, golden yellow with earthy undertones, it is a natural iron oxide pigment prized for its reliability, permanence, and quiet versatility.
Yellow Ochre is the foundation of countless warm neutrals, natural greens, skin tones, and landscape tones. It softens and naturalises brighter colours without deadening them, and creates an extraordinary range of harmonious mixes when used as a base.
An essential earth colour for every artist - from the most experienced professional working on large-scale landscapes to a beginner building their first palette.

Artist grade quality

Creamy, soft consistency
Higher glycerine binder than pans and therefore have buttery soft texture that disperses effortlessly in water.
Supreme lightfastness
Highly lightfast pigments rated Excellent which means your artwork stays brilliant for decades.
Perfect for large areas
A tiny squeeze goes a long way. Ideal for smooth, even washes across large sections of a painting.
Why choose tubes?
Watercolour tubes contain more glycerine binder than pans, giving the paint a soft, creamy texture that mixes instantly with water. A small amount from the tube goes a very long way - making tubes ideal for large washes and expressive, generous brushwork.
Leave it to dry - reactivate anytime
Squeeze out what you need and leave the rest on your palette. When the paint dries, simply mist with a little water and it reactivates fully - as workable as when it was first squeezed. No cleaning needed between sessions, and nothing is ever wasted.
Refill your pans
Use tubes to top up empty half- or full-pans in your travel or studio palette. Squeeze into the pan, let the paint cure for a few days, and you have freshly loaded pans ready for use - far more economical than buying replacement pans.
Beautiful pastels with White
Mix Yellow Ochre with White to reveal a range of warm, earthy pastel tints - from soft golden straw to pale, dusty sand. It yields muted honey and wheat tones that are perfect for sun-warmed portrait flesh, aged parchment studies, and the hazy, light-filled skies of a late summer afternoon.
