About this colour
Perylene Maroon is a modern synthetic organic pigment of exceptional depth and quality - a dark, rich maroon with burgundy undertones that carries impressive transparency and outstanding lightfastness. First available as a dye around 1912 and adopted as an artist pigment in the late 1950s, Perylene Maroon represents the best of contemporary colour science.
Its deep, jewel-like transparency makes it remarkable for glazing and layering - building luminous dark reds and maroons that glow from within, rather than sitting flat on the surface. In dilution, it reveals a beautiful warm crimson that is perfect for florals, portraiture, and rich fabric studies.
A sophisticated, single-pigment colour that mixes cleanly with blues for deep aubergine tones and with earth browns for rich, complex shadows. Suitable for professional artists and beginners who appreciate a premium, versatile dark red.

Why choose tubes?
Watercolour tubes contain more glycerine binder than pans, giving the paint a soft, creamy texture that mixes instantly with water. A small amount from the tube goes a very long way - making tubes ideal for large washes and expressive, generous brushwork.
Leave it to dry - reactivate anytime
Squeeze out what you need and leave the rest on your palette. When the paint dries, simply mist with a little water and it reactivates fully - as workable as when it was first squeezed. No cleaning needed between sessions, and nothing is ever wasted.
Refill your pans
Use tubes to top up empty half- or full-pans in your travel or studio palette. Squeeze into the pan, let the paint cure for a few days, and you have freshly loaded pans ready for use - far more economical than buying replacement pans.
Muted Rose Tints with White
Mix Perylene Maroon with White to unlock a range of warm, muted rose tints - from soft dusty brick to pale antique pink. It yields earthy rose and subdued blush tones that are perfect for portrait work, floral studies, and soft romantic skies.
