Burnt Umber is a deep, warm brown formulated with PR101 and PBK6, combining earthy richness with subtle smoky undertones. A true studio essential, it is valued for its ability to create convincing shadows, realistic wood textures, weathered stone, tree bark, and expressive landscape details without overwhelming surrounding colours.
Its semi-transparent character and gentle granulation allow it to produce beautiful tonal variation, from soft warm glazes to rich dark accents. Burnt Umber is also one of the finest mixing colours available, creating classic neutral greys with Ultramarine, deep forest tones with greens, and natural skin shadows for portrait painting.
